Additional information on Canadian orders, shipping & duties
by admin on May.24, 2010, under FridgeFTA Store News
Shipping
All Canadian orders which are shipped from the United States are sent VIA USPS/Canada Post. Orders under 4 pounds are sent VIA First Class Mail, orders over 4 pounds and/or high value items such as satellite meters are send USPS Priority Mail.
Typical delivery time for Canadian orders is 6 – 14 business days from the shipping day. This does not include time in customs on the chance that Canadian Customs inspects your order. Most items sent VIA USPS clear customs without delay, this is one of the reasons we use them. We have no control over Canadian Customs.
Some items are shipped within Canada to Canadian customers. Shipping method is usually Canada Post, Pururolator or FedEx Canada.
Pricing
All pricing is in US Dollars (USD). Canadian pricing on many items is a bit higher than USA purchases due to increased shipping costs on those items. We do our best to minimize this cost. Most of our pricing is lower than Canadian dealer retail pricing, even before figuring in taxes on local purchases. See the “Taxes” section to see how else you save with FridgeFTA.
Taxes (tax free in Canada)
The point of sale (POS) for all items including those shipped from within Canada to you is St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. This means that you are not charged PST/GST/HST, a savings of around 13% depending where in Canada you are.
Duties
All duties, import taxes, fees, ect are the responsibility of the customer, not FridgeFTA. That said, we do our best to legally minimize both the possibility and severity of these costs on the unlikely chance that your order is held for duties. Here is how:
USPS SHIPPING: Most items sent to Canada VIA USPS are not stopped by Customs or held for duties. On the chance that they are, USPS/Canada Post has a fixed brokerage of $5 we believe. This is much cheaper than UPS, FedEX or other services that charge a fee and percentage for brokerage.
DECLARED VALUE: We cannot mark down items below their US value under Canadian law. However, we can mark their “value” as our best price in the USA, as the Canadian price is higher for shipping only.
How much are duties?
We cannot say for sure, but it appears to be about 6% if you are hit, plus the $5 brokerage. This is still cheaper than 13% taxes you would pay on a local purchase. We believe, but cannot guarantee that items with value under $20 are duty free, and that there is a fixed dollar amount that is exempt on higher purchases.
NAFTA items made in the USA are exempt from duties, however the only USA made items are made in-house at FridgeFTA, such as the Scalar Sidecar Kit.
FridgeFTA does a significant amount of business in Canada, especially with retail of DMS International products. You can be assured that your Canadian order is handled in a professional manner by a company with much experience doing business in Canada. Home of the original C-band project???
by admin on May.08, 2010, under FridgeFTA Forums News, FridgeFTA TV News
Recently it was brought to my attention that a certain someone is making claims to be the “home of the original C-band project” so I looked into this a bit. Here is what I have found, and unlike the unsubstantiated claims and stories from others I have FACTS to back it up.
It cannot be said for sure what guy where grabbed a “handy bracket” (credit to MrP for the term, we don’t take credit for other people’s work at Fridge) and held it up to a Ku dish and saw something happen. Like many discoveries and inventions sometimes several people independently try something out. But here is what we can put together from available solid documentation rather than hollow claims:
Early 2006 – Two Canadians, Vito Carriero & Tony DiRienzo, experimented and documented C-band reception on both a 1.2 meter and 1 meter dish.
March 2006 – TeleSatellite Magazine reports on the work of Carriero & DiRienzo. This article is on page 58 here: http://magazine.tele-satellite.com/eng/T…e-0603.pdf We also have a copy onsite that Micki put here on opening day in April 2009: http://www.fridgefta.info/forums/showthread.php?tid=200
Feb 2009 – IS5 is moved into a position where it is receivable from NZ. Shortly after, using locally sourced equipment, Tony Dunnett conducts his C-band experiments on the small dish.
March?? 2009 – Tony Dunnett reports his work and results on “The FTA Show”.
Early to mid 2009 – Many other individuals, dealers and wholesalers begin experimenting with C-band on small dishes, and “conical scalar kits” become commonplace.
So, other than to report on the results of others, neither TeleSatellite or FTA Show has done any actual work on the project. TeleSatellite at least, makes no claim of having done any work.
If we go with documented FACTS, Carriero & DiRienzo did it here first, years before any other documentation on the project appeared over here. Tony Dunnett really did the scientific development and experimental work to turn the project from an experiment into quantifiable and repeatable results. Tony and JX were probably the first to take this idea into a production/retail environment, offering pre-assembled kits and installations geared specifically toward daily reception of C-band on Ku dishes. Tony has also contributed his research, expertise and time assisting those of us in North America that actually do the project to improve on our results.
May FridgeFTA TV in Production
by admin on May.05, 2010, under FridgeFTA Forums News, FridgeFTA TV News
We’ve delayed some of the production a bit waiting on news to break and for an investigation, but now have it in full swing.
Some of the topics will include more Echostar news, feedback on the C-band project and a special report on FreeDBS.
Hopefully May FridgeFTA TV will be airing before this weekend. Stay tuned…
